The International Festival of Archaeological Documentary Film, Cultural and Historical Heritage, Monument Protection and Anthropology (MFAF) was first held in 2010. This biennial festival was launched with the aim of presenting cultural heritage and archaeological topics within the context of European and global heritage, as well as to the wider public, while fostering awareness and appreciation of one’s own cultural heritage.
Festival Program and Juries
The festival program is divided into several sections, with the central part being the competition program. It features films that explore diverse and engaging themes from the field of archaeology and present investigative stories about the study, analysis, and reconstruction of monumental heritage.
In the competition program, three types of awards are presented. The main award of the Professional Jury, which is also the highest recognition of the Festival, is presented in the form of a replica of the wooden sculpture Croatian King by Vasko Lipovac. In addition to the Professional Jury Award, the Student Jury Award and the Audience Award are also granted.
A special feature of the Students’ Jury Award is that the jury consists of students, representatives of higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia, who, as future professionals, independently define the evaluation criteria, select the film that stands out to them the most.
Registrations Open until March 1
The Festival will take place from October 26 to 28, 2026 in Split, and we are pleased to announce that the call for film submissions is now open. The submission deadline is March 1, 2026, and films may be submitted regardless of their duration.
