A New Venue for the Festival in the Heart of Split
This year’s 9th edition of the International Archaeological Film Festival will take place at the Zlatna Vrata Center for Culture and Lifelong Learning in Split. Exceptionally, the festival screenings will move from their traditional venue due to ongoing renovation works at the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments.
Diocletian’s Palace as a Backdrop for Cinematic Stories
Located in the heart of Split’s historic centre, the Zlatna Vrata Cinema offers a unique setting for a film festival dedicated to archaeological heritage. The combination of centuries-old architecture and contemporary cinema further highlights the Festival’s central mission: bringing the past closer to today’s audiences through documentary filmmaking. This remarkable setting creates a special atmosphere for exploring archaeological discoveries, ancient civilizations and the stories of people who have shaped our shared history.
Zlatna Vrata – A Center of Split’s Film and Cultural Tradition
The Zlatna Vrata Cultural Center is housed in a restored Late Gothic palace within Diocletian’s Palace and has served as a cultural institution at this location since 1964. Over the decades, it has become an essential part of Split’s film culture, renowned for the Zlatna Vrata Cinema, its screenings of cinema classics and art-house films, as well as festivals, exhibitions and numerous cultural events.
Its longstanding dedication to cinema and the preservation of cultural values makes Zlatna Vrata a natural host for this year’s Festival, which will once again bring the past and present together on the big screen, against the historic backdrop of Split.
